Why Schools Choose to Work With Nova Supports

Practical recommendations

Plans are designed around real classrooms, staffing levels, schedules, and instructional needs.

Clear Communication

We translate behavioral concepts into language school teams can understand and use.

Collaborative support

We work alongside educators, administrators, families, and related-service providers without blame or judgment.

Compassionate, evidence-based Care

Our approach considers behavior, communication, regulation, relationships, environment, culture, and student dignity.

Support for the kids...
and the team around them

Challenging behavior rarely has a simple explanation. It may be connected to any number of reasons, such as communication, regulation, academic demands, sensory needs, relationships, classroom structure, or a student’s ability to access support.

Our behavior consultants work collaboratively with educators, administrators, related-service providers, families, and IEP teams to identify what is contributing to the concern and determine what can realistically help.

The goal is to reduce problem behaviors, but it's also to improve access, participation, safety, communication, independence, and meaningful success at school.

What the Process Looks Like

colorful planet
1 - Understand the concern

We meet with the school team to learn what is happening, what has already been tried, and what support is needed.

2 - Observe and Assess

Describe the item and include any relevant details. Click to edit the text.

3 - Develop a Practical Plan

We provide clear recommendations that account for the realities of the school environment.

4 - Train, Support, and Adjust

We help staff implement the plan, monitor progress, address barriers, and make changes when needed.

This approach reflects Nova’s school-based model of assessment, consultation, training, implementation support, and follow-up.

NOVA HELPS WITH

Individual Student Support

We help school teams understand why a behavior may be happening and determine appropriate next steps.

Our individual student behavior consultation services may include...

Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)

Identify why a behavior may be occurring by reviewing records, gathering input, observing the student, and analyzing relevant data.

Classroom Observation & Data Collection

Observe the student and classroom environment to better understand patterns, triggers, supports, and barriers to success.

Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

Create a practical, individualized plan that outlines prevention strategies, skills to teach, and consistent ways for staff to respond.

Individual Student Consultation

Collaborate with the school team to problem-solve concerns and recommend practical next steps for a specific student.

Review of existing behavior plans or student data

Examine current plans and data to identify what is working, what may be missing, and what should be adjusted.

Team Collaboration

Participation in IEP, FBA, BIP, or student-support meetings. Attend team meetings to explain findings, answer questions, support decision-making, and help align the plan across team members.

Our recommendations are designed to fit the student’s actual classroom, schedule, staffing situation, and learning environment, optimized for best results.

Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) Implementation & Training

Teach staff how to understand and consistently use the strategies outlined in the student’s Behavior Intervention Plan.

Practical Data Collection Tools

Create simple, realistic tools that help staff track behavior and student progress without adding unnecessary workload.

Teacher & paraprofessional coaching

Provide practical, individualized support to help staff respond effectively during everyday classroom situations.

Follow-up Observations

Return to observe how the plan is working in the classroom and identify any implementation barriers.

Modeling, practice, and feedback

Demonstrate strategies, give staff opportunities to practice, and offer supportive feedback to build confidence and consistency.

Adjustments

If the behavior plan is not working as expected, our team will review the data and team feedback, then update strategies to better meet the student’s needs.

We focus on clear, usable strategies that school staff can realistically maintain.

FAQ

Who can use Nova’s school behavior consultation services?

We work with public schools, charter schools, districts, special education teams, early childhood programs, and other educational settings. Services can support an individual student, a classroom, or a school-wide need.

Does a student need a diagnosis to receive consultation?

Not necessarily. Schools may request support based on behavioral, communication, regulation, participation, or safety concerns. It depends on the service requested and the school’s decision-making process.

Do you provide both FBAs and BIPs?

Yes. Nova can complete a Functional Behavior Assessment, develop a Behavior Intervention Plan, or provide both as a coordinated service. We can also train staff and provide follow-up support after the plan is developed.

Can Nova review an existing FBA or BIP?

Yes. We can review existing plans, student data, and implementation practices to identify what is working, what may be missing, and what adjustments could improve outcomes.

Will you attend IEP or student-support meetings?

Yes. When included in the scope of services, Nova consultants can attend IEP, FBA, BIP, or other student-support meetings to explain findings, answer questions, and help the team coordinate implementation.

Do you train teachers and paraprofessionals?

Yes. Training can include explanation of the plan, modeling, guided practice, feedback, and coaching in the classroom. Our goal is to help staff feel confident using the strategies during everyday school routines.

Can services be customized to our school’s needs?

Yes, of course! Consultation may focus on one student, classroom systems, staff development, PBIS, tiered supports, or broader school-wide concerns. We work with the school to define the scope before services begin.

Do you offer ongoing consultation?

Yes. Schools may request one-time consultation, short-term implementation support, or ongoing coaching throughout the school year. Follow-up can include observations, data review, problem-solving, and plan adjustments.

How long does the process take?

Timelines depend on the type of service, the complexity of the concern, access to records and staff, and the number of observations needed. Nova will provide an expected timeline as part of the service agreement and scope of work.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing depends on the service requested, the level of assessment or consultation needed, training time, travel, and the amount of ongoing support. Schools receive a clear estimate before services begin. Nova’s proposal includes options for hourly services, individual service packages, and broader school support packages.

Are recommendations designed for real classroom settings?

Yes. Recommendations consider staffing, schedules, instructional demands, available resources, and the needs of the student and school team. We focus on strategies that are practical, understandable, and sustainable.
