Get Your BCBA Hours While You Work
You'll receive one-on-one supervision from an experienced BCBA, learning behavior-analytic terminology, assessment, and treatment strategies as you go. In Utah, behavior analysts in training are able to bill clinical hours under a supervising BCBA under certain circumstances — meaning your training time can also be paid time.
Fulfilling Careers as a Behavior Analyst: Supporting Adults with Disabilities
We also offer a specialized track for trainees passionate about working with adults with disabilities. You'll work alongside both trainee and experienced BCBAs to develop and implement behavior support plans for teens and adults, gaining unique, hands-on experience in a less commonly covered area of ABA.

How to Become an RBT:

Which one is a better option?
Nova Supports offers RBT positions in both settings, and it's worth thinking through which one fits you best before you apply.
Working in a clinic means seeing multiple clients throughout the day in one location, with BCBAs and other RBTs nearby for real-time support, troubleshooting, and quick questions. Clinics tend to offer more structure and consistency — predictable hours, established routines, and built-in opportunities to learn from watching how other technicians run sessions. It's a strong fit if you're newer to ABA and want extra support close at hand, or if you prefer not to drive between appointments throughout the day.
Working in-home means going directly to a client's house for one-on-one sessions, often across a few different families in a week, depending on your hours vs. clients' needs. Many RBTs prefer this setting because it lets them see skills generalize in the environment where a child actually lives — mealtimes, bedtime routines, sibling interactions — which can make the work feel more immediately meaningful. In-home roles usually come with more independence and a bit more schedule flexibility, since you're coordinating directly with each family. The tradeoff is less in-person backup in the moment; support from your supervising BCBA is more often by phone, text, or scheduled video check-ins rather than someone down the hall.
Neither setting is "better" than the other. It all depends on the needs of the clients and accessibility & traveling distance to the clinic. Some of our RBTs split time between both.

What is a behavior technician?
A behavior technician (also called a behavioral technician or BT) is a trained professional who works one-on-one with individuals with disabilities to implement behavior intervention plans. This is done under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). At Nova Supports, our behavior technicians are the heart of our ABA therapy teams, building real relationships with clients while helping them reach meaningful milestones every day.
What is the difference between a BCBA job and an RBT job?
A BCBA supervises the RBT, and the RBT works one-on-one with the client. A BCBA may supervise a handful to several RBTs at a time (depending on their clients and the various RBTs assigned to them). While a BCBA requires a master's degree, a behavior technician only needs a high school education and to pass the 40-hr training and RBT certification.
How much do RBT jobs pay in Utah?
Nova Supports pays a competitive and fair wage to all employees. RBT hourly pay greatly varies in Utah and depends largely on the city where you work as well as any previous experience in ABA. At Nova Supports, client safety is of the utmost importance. You must be able to pass a background check if you want to work with clients.
Is there RBT training available?
In order to be certified as an RBT, you will need to complete a 40-hour online training course. The fee for this course is waived by Nova Supports. You will also need to pass the official RBT exam through the BACB.
Will I receive hands-on behavior tech training?
Yes, after completing your 40-hour training course online, you will be matched with a client and be trained by a BCBA on how to run the ABA therapy with your client. You may also shadow another RBT for a session.
Where will I be working as an RBT?
Behavior technicians at Nova Supports can either work in a clinic setting, or in the client's home. We provide both services; families can choose which works best for them. Your preference can be taken into consideration.
What tools do I need to be a behavioral tech?
You will be expected to take data during your ABA therapy sessions. Nova Supports used to utilize iPads for this purpose, but RBTs found them to be too bulky and distracting. We have an app for your mobile phone that you can use to take data, so access to a smartphone will be necessary for your job.
What ages will I be working with?
RBTs may be assigned to work with either adults or kids with autism, depending on your strengths, the needs of the client, and job availability in your area.
What kind of schooling do I need to become a behavior technician?
RBTs need a high school diploma or GED. No college degree is required to be an RBT.
How old do I have to be to work as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?
All our RBTs are required to be 18 years of age or older. Drivers who transport clients are required to be 25 years old or more.
Do RBTs continually receive training?
BCBAs provide ongoing training and support to their RBTs. There will also be supervision with BCBAs in person and/or over video chat occasionally.
